May issue of Time Magazine shocked the nation with it’s cover! A mother standing up while her three years old stands on a chair and latches on to breastfeeding. When enough is enough?

The Time magazine article as shocking as it is raises some good questions. For example, it asks when should we to stop breastfeeding our children, or when our children should start sleeping by themselves! Should we let our offspring breastfeed for as long as they want…..think…2, 3, 4, 5, 15 years old? I say that’s insane!

While this is a head-turner in modern society, is there precedent for it in history?  Supporters say there is biological precedent in other species to allow a child to breastfeed until they are ready to wean.

Being raised in this part of the world, I've seen more of the opposite:  a sow or cow will refuse milk to a child when they decide the child can fend for itself.

Regardless, if you are on board or not, it still feels very strange and odd for the rest of the people who are in the same room when a toddler goes up to his/her mom and asks to be breastfed. I had at least one friend who was raising her child that way.

There are no studies I know of on the long-term effects of "close parenting" on children, but I would be interested, wouldn't you?
