As you can see, most of these ingredients are pretty common. The tahini paste may be the only thing you might not know where to find. You can usually find this ingredient near the peanut butter. If you’re feeling enthusiastic, you could even make your own. It is actually pretty simple.

First you want to combine cooked sweet potato and drained beans in a large mixing bowl. Mash these ingredients together so that they are well combined. Then mash in your tahini, sweet syrup (maple, agave, or honey), seasonings, and flour. After you’ve done this, taste your mixture and add more seasonings if desired. You’re mixture will be soft and moist but you will be able to form patties. If you want, you can add more flour, a scoop of bread crumbs, or some cooked rice to thicken mixture.

Heat oil in a pan over high heat. Form patties and coat with a thick layer of panko breadcrumbs. Then drop patties in the pan. You can usually fit four patties in one pan. Cook until browned on both sides. When cooked well, transfer patties to a paper towel and let cool for a moment.

Layer avocado, onion, and lettuce on your favorite toasted bread. You can also make a quick sauce by combining Dijon mustard and a little low fat mayo. I did and it was VERY tasty.

If you want to be healthier, you can bake your patties. Just make sure you use less breadcrumbs.
