OSU’s Marcus Smart Pushes Texas Tech Fan During Saturday’s Game[VIDEO]
During Saturday’s college basketball game against Texas Tech, OSU guard Marcus Smart will face disciplinary action for pushing Jeff Orr, a fan of Texas Tech.
The game footage shows Orr saying something to Smart which then causes the OSU player to shove the fan.
Smart then proceeded to shove Orr who stumbled back, but did not fall.
Earlier today, a hearing was held by the Big 12 Conference to determine if Smart would be punished for his actions with Orr. It has been ruled that Smart will be suspended for three games.
According to our affiliate in Lubbock, TX, 1340thefan.com, The Big 12 released this statement:
“Mr. Smart’s actions were a clear violation of the Big 12 Conference’s Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Policy,” said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “Such behavior has no place in athletics, and will not be tolerated. I appreciate the efforts of Oklahoma State University athletics director Mike Holder in addressing this matter, and believe this is an appropriate response to an inappropriate action.”
Officials told ESPN that Smart claims that Orr used a racial slur to him. After the incident Smart was reported to be “down and remorseful” and that he just got caught up in the heat of the moment.
Orr has also stated that his own actions were inappropriate and inexcusable. He has volunteered not to appear at anymore Texas Tech games, both home and away, for the remainder of the season.
Below are two videos, the first video is the original footage that shows Orr clearly saying something to Smart. The video below that is raw footage of the incident from Texas Tech Sports broadcasting. The raw footage does show that Orr did indeed provoke Smart, however in the video no racial slur can be heard. All that can be heard is Orr calling Smart a “piece of crap” around the 18 second mark.
