I can only think of two words that would properly reflect want happened last Friday night "DOMINATING DEFENSE"!

In all my years of covering high school football (nineteen to be exact) I have never witnessed such a defensive performance against a bigger foe in a 6-A team; a crosstown rival who always has such quickness and speed and a Lawton High team who had just been in a state title game just the year before.

And try as they might they still could not come up with an answer from this stifling defense who badgered them at every hand-off and throw. When they tried to go to the air it was either disrupted or picked off including one for a touchdown and  a 33-12 win over their city rival.

WOW dominating is right. The only downer for the evening and casualty for the night was that starting quarterback Anthony Love went out in the 2nd quarter with a knee injury and did not return. Unfortunately is does not look like he will be back this season. But A- Love is a strong individual and will work hard to get back where he started.

The other big story of the night was sophomore quarterback J.R. Winningham. He came off the bench with virtually no warm up, handing the ball off  to Teddy Thomas for a 1st down carry. The very next play, his first pass as a varsity player, using a little razzle dazzle with a double reverse trick play pass, Winningham threw a 55 yard TD to receiver Javier Christon. The play that shocked and stunned both sides of a filled up Cameron stadium. What a night! What do they say about big players making big plays in big situations? His pass was right on the mark! Way to go J.R.

There is not much to time to celebrate as this week Big Mac must face their other cross town rival in the Eisenhower Eagles (0-2). They would like for nothing else than to play spoiler to a Mac victory for this Friday night and a chance as back to back City Champions. You may recall what I said would happen after winning last year - everybody, and I mean everybody, will be gunning for us every week! So, put on your battle helmet and lets go again.

Join us Tuesday night (9/15) at 6 p.m. at El Chico in Central Mall for the Coach Manning show. We'll interview the coaching staff and some of the players! Do you have a question for the coaching staff? Submit your question by CLICKING HERE and if we use your question on the air you will win a MyMac t-shirt.
