The sun started to sink beyond the clouds and set just west of Cameron Stadium on that hot August evening. The MacArthur Highlanders had just finished their first scrimmage against Bishop McGinnis, I couldn't help but feel that the special time of the year has finally arrived in Southwest Oklahoma - MAC FOOTBALL! For football fanatics like me, the start of the 2014 football season always gets me excited. The Freshman started out the scrimmage by mixing it up as their first time playing as Highlanders; followed by the Junior Varsity but, the 200 or so that came out that night wanted to see one thing and answer the old age question - How does the varsity look?

Certainly all eyes were on this years varsity team to see what they had to offer and the fans were not disappointed. After letting their guests start off with their 12 plays on offense, Big Mac, with a hurry up offense,  quickly found themselves in the end zone with a touchdown, capped off by running back Davon Finkley.

The defense was not to be outdone with a pick 6 touchdown from Lorenzo West. The next time the Highlander starters made it back on the field, Big Mac took 3 plays to find their way into the end zone again. This time with a run by quarterback Will Collins.

After the scrimmage the coaches were excited but reserved with their comments reminding the players that this is a scrimmage. “Dont get the big head” coach Manning reminded the team. But for the fans to say the bar has been raised with great expectations for this year is an understatement.

This years motto is Rise Up and the Highlanders rose up to their first challenge to their road to the GOLD BALL!!!
