After a month of very hot temperatures the season opener was everything but unusual as a cool front from the north brought in not only cooler temperatures but also a steady shower to the "tornado bowl in Clinton for the start of the game.

There was high expectations coming from both sides as Clinton came into the game ranked #2 in 4-A and the Highlanders ranked #5 in 5-A. The only disappointment to the season opener was that Big Mac went 3 and out with their first position and was held back at their own end of the field.

After settling down the Highlanders quickly found themselves in the end zone with 6:43 left in the first quarter and a 6-0 lead. Macarthur had a 22-6 lead with less than two minutes before the half  and decided to use all of their 3 time outs in hopes of getting the ball back just one more time before the half and with just 1:15 left in the second quarter and a 4th down putting situation for Clinton the ball sailed over the punters head and a scramble ensued with Mac's Conner Cherry ending up with a quick scoop and score on a 10 yard run and a 29-6 halftime lead.

The Highlanders finished the night with 382 total yards 181 on the ground and 186 by air with quarterback Will Collins throwing 3 touchdowns on the night. The Highlanders finished the game with a 43-6 win and 1-0 on the season.
